Gaon: Bringing the Heart of Bihar to Delhi NCR's Dining Tables

Founded in 2017 by Alok Ranjan, Gaon is a Delhi-based cloud kitchen and restaurant chain dedicated to delivering authentic Bihari cuisine across Delhi NCR. From traditional dishes like Litti Chokha and Champaran Handi Mutton to Sattu Paratha and Sarson Saag, Gaon offers a culinary journey into Bihar's rich gastronomic heritage.

Alok Ranjan, hailing from Bihar, was inspired by his roots and the desire to share his homeland's flavors with a broader audience. He completed his MBA and later worked at Microsoft, Zostel, and Little App. While working at Little App, his frequent interactions with food industry professionals sparked a growing interest in the culinary space. At the same time, he and his siblings often struggled to find authentic, home-style Bihari food in Delhi, as infrequent trips back to Bihar made it difficult to enjoy traditional meals. This gap in the market—and their personal craving for familiar flavours—laid the foundation for his next entrepreneurial pursuit. Starting with a modest setup, he transformed Gaon into a thriving enterprise, emphasizing authenticity and traditional cooking methods.

Gaon gained national attention after appearing on Season 4 of Shark Tank India. Alok Ranjan pitched his venture, seeking ₹75 lakhs for a 1% equity stake. Impressed by the brand's vision and growth, investors Anupam Mittal and Aman Gupta offered ₹75 lakhs for 2.5% equity, which Alok accepted.

Gaon's menu is a celebration of Bihari and Rajasthani delicacies, featuring dishes like Litti Chokha, Champaran Handi Meat, Sattu Paratha, and Sarson Saag. Each recipe is prepared following traditional methods, ensuring an authentic taste experience.

Beyond its culinary delights, Gaon offers a unique dining atmosphere reminiscent of rural India. The decor, inspired by village aesthetics, includes traditional paintings, wall lanterns, and rustic furnishings, providing patrons with an immersive cultural experience.

Since its inception, Gaon has seen a steady upward trajectory. What started as a single outlet has expanded to multiple cloud kitchens and dine-in spaces across Delhi NCR, including locations in Malviya Nagar, Gurgaon, Noida, and Lajpat Nagar. The company has served over 4 lakh customers to date and clocked ₹5.5 crore in revenue in FY 2023-24. With rising demand for regional cuisine, Gaon now plans to enter the FMCG space under the Gaon Foods brand, offering a range of traditional spices, ready-to-cook mixes, and packaged staples.
